First Inning

Yankees — Gilhooley out. Miller out. Pratt singles to right. Pipp out.

Red Sox — Hooper walks. Shean sacrifices Hooper to second. Strunk singles to center, Hooper scores. Hoblitzell flies out to deep right. Caldwell leaves game with arm trouble, Thormalsen in. McInnis makes third out.

Fourth Inning

Yankees — Pratt doubles to the left field bank. Pipp strikes out on a 3-2 pitch. Baker flies to short center. Bodie singles through the infield, Pratt scores. Bodie steals second (1st stolen base off Agnew this season). Peck makes third out.

Fifth Inning

Red Sox — Agnew lines double to right center, Gilhooley misses making a circus catch. Ruth safe at first when Pratt dropped his very high pop up. Hooper safe on a bunt single, bases loaded. Shean’s easy grounder is booted by Pratt, who then throws wild to second, Agnew and Ruth score. Strunk lines a single through Pratt’s legs, Hooper and Shean score, Strunk moves to second on throw to home. Hoblitzell out in the infield, Strunk to third. McInnis out in the infield, Strunk scores. 

Sixth Inning

Red Sox — Scott grounds to shortstop, throw dropped at first by Pipp, Scott safe at first. Agnew sacrifices Scott to second. Ruth flies out deep to right field. Gilhooley made a one-handed catch at the right field bleacher wall. Scott scores from second base. [Note: In 1915, when Gilhooley played for Richmond in the International League, he scored against Buffalo from second on a fly to deep right center.]

Seventh Inning

Yankees — Bodie walks and scores on two consecutive singles. He later scores New York’s second run of the inning.

Red Sox — An error by Yankees pitcher Monroe leads to a Sox run, which swcores on Whiteman’s double. Later in the inning, Whiteman and Scott pull off a double steal.

Eighth Inning

Yankees — Pratt doubles. Pipp is out. Baker doubles, Pratt scores. Rally ends when a line drive is caught by McInnis at third.

Ninth Inning

Yankees — Pratt’s 4th hit of day drives in the game’s final run.


Notes:
In five games so far, the Red Sox have outscored their opponents 24-11. In the first five games of 1917, Boston had a 27-12 run advantage.
