Play-by-play:
Washington 1st – Shotton lines Ruth’s first pitch to right for single. Lavan safe on fielder’s choice, Shotton out at second. After the second out, Lavan steals second base. Next batter grounds out to first unassisted.
Red Sox 1st – Hooper walks and is left on third base.
Washington 3rd – 1-2-3.
Red Sox 3rd – Agnew doubles to the left field bank and goes to third on Harper’s wild pitch. Ruth walks. Hooper walks, bases loaded. Shean walks, forcing in a run (Harper throws 11 straight balls at one point). Strunk taps a grounder that is fumbled by Morgan at second, Ruth scores. With a 3-0 count on Schang, Harper is pulled and Earl Yingling is the new pitcher. Schang eventually strikes out. McInnis singles, Hooper scores. Hoblitzell walks to force in another run. A double play ends the inning, Scott out on a fantastic play by Morgan spearing ball one-handed.
Washington 4th – Strunk made a hell of a sliding diving catch off Clyde Milan fly ball.
Red Sox 4th – Agnew singles to left. After Ruth and Hooper make outs, Shean singles to left, Agnew to third, Shean takes second on the throw home. Agnew scores on a wild pitch. Strunk safe on an infield hit to second, and on a wild throw, Shean scores.
Washington 6th- Ainsmith doubles over Strunk’s head in center, but Ruth makes two good fielding plays to save a run.
Red Sox 6th – Ruth doubles past Judge at third. Hooper walks for the third time. Shean hits into a double play.
Washington 8th – Morgan singles to left and goes to second on Schang’s fumble. Foster flies out. Ainsmith walks. Gharrity hits for Yingling and lines a double to center, Morgan scores. Shotton walks to load the bases and Lavan hits into a double play.
Red Sox 9th – Scott singles. Agnew strikes out, but Scott takes second on a stolen base/passed ball. Ruth walks. Scott and Ruth attempt a double steal; Scott is safe at third and Foster throws to no one at second. The ball goes into the outfield, Scott scores. Hooper’s hit scores Ruth. Strunk is out on a bad call.
