Major League Debut: September 17, 1914

Walter Barbare began his professional career in 1912 and played with the Cleveland Indians from 1914 to 1916. Barbare spent the first part of the 1918 season with New Orleans (Southern League) where he hit .283 in 70 games. He joined the Red Sox in late June. After approximately three weeks with the club, Boston sent Barbare to Jersey City of the International League; he batted .366 in 48 games.

Barbare played the infield for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1919 and 1920 before returning to Boston as the Braves’ shortstop for two years. His best season was 1921, when he batted .302 in 134 games. He later played, managed and umpired in the minor leagues.
