Sean Casey scored three times and Barry Larkin doubled and drove in two runs as the Cincinnati
Reds outslugged the Boston Red Sox, 9-7, in a Grapefruit League game.
Red Sox starter Dustin Hermanson retired just one batter before being chased from the mound. The veteran righthander allowed six runs and three hits and was unable to find the plate, walking three and hitting a batter.
Boston countered with four runs in the bottom of the first off winner Elmer Dessens, who surrendered five runs and eight hits in three innings.
Chris Reitsma tossed three scoreless innings for Cincinnati, allowing two hits and striking out four. Luis Pineda pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
Wilton Veras homered and drove in two runs and Tony Clark had two RBI for Boston. Rickey Henderson doubled twice and scored a run and Trot Nixon had two hits and scored twice as the Red Sox outhit the Reds, 13-10.
