Play-by-play:

Rangers 1st — An RBI double by Ivan Rodriguez scored Rafael Palmeiro.

Boston 3rd — Lansing scored on a double by Chris Stynes.

Red Sox 8th — Jose Offerman’s single scored Lansing.

Red Sox 9th — Shea Hillenbrand was caught rounding second base too far on an infield single by Craig Grebeck. Shortstop Kelly Dransfeldt turned around and threw to Michael Young at second, who tagged Hillenbrand out to end the game.

Frank Castillo, who is scheduled to start a week from Thursday in Baltimore, made his longest outing in terms of pitches, throwing 85, 52 for strikes. At one point, he retired ten straight Texas batters before allowing a lead-off single to Rusty Greer in the sixth.

The crowd of 7,987, another sell-out at City of Palms, pushed the total for the month to 113,999, a new Grapefruit League standard on Edison Avenue.

With the loss, the Red Sox finished the ‘home’ portion of their spring schedule with a 6-9 record at City of Palms. The Red Sox lost consecutive games for the first time since March 13 and fell to 10-15 in Grapefruit League play. Texas improved to 13-10.

Jimy Williams announced after the game that he has changed plans for the two exhibition games Friday and Saturday. Hideo Nomo will make the start against Houston Friday night, and Castillo will get his final start of the spring Saturday in Milwaukee. Williams had originally planned on throwing all relievers in the Saturday contest.

Paxton Crawford and Tomo Ohka are both scheduled to pitch Sunday in minor league exhibition action in Fort Myers. Ohka will see his first start on April 6 in the Fenway Park opener against Tampa Bay while Crawford will start the next day.

Manny Ramirez walked, struck out, popped out and lined out in four plate appearances in a minor league game Monday.

Rolando Arrojo, scheduled to pitch in relief Monday, didn’t work because he had to meet with a dentist.

Brian Daubach, who fouled a ball off his big toe on Saturday, had X-rays that found no fracture. The injury was diagnosed as a deep bruise.

David Cone said Saturday he is receiving care from an acupuncturist in his bid to recover from shoulder pain. “I’ll try anything from Eastern to Western philosophies,” Cone said. “Acupuncture to cortisone.”
