Partial play-by-play:

Texas 1st: Rusty Greer led off the game by singling to right-center field on a 2-0 pitch. Ivan Rodriguez hit a soft grounder to third. Valentin misplayed the ball and it went through his legs. Alex Rodriguez walked on six pitches. During the at-bat, a wild pitch allowed Greer to score. Rafael Palmeiro drove a first-pitch fastball 415 feet over the center field wall for a three-run home run. Chad Curtis grounded out to shortstop. Frank Catalanotto drove an 0-1 fastball down the right field line and over the fence for a solo home run.

Texas 2nd: Cone retires Rangers 1-2-3 and threw a total of 35 pitches, 23 for strikes. Valentin grabbed Ivan Rodriguez’s hard grounder down the line and threw him out.

Rangers 3rd: Alex Rodriguez lined a ground single to left field.

Red Sox 3rd: John Valentin homered off Jeff Zimmerman on the first pitch. Later in the inning, Alex Rodriguez caught Offerman’s grounder behind second base, spun around and threw him out.

Rangers 5th: Alex Rodriguez singled to left-center but was thrown out by Troy O’Leary trying to stretch it into a double.

Rangers 7th: Kelly Dransfeldt hit a solo home run off Sang-Hoon Lee.

Rangers 9th: Dransfeldt doubled in a run.

A record crowd of 7,412 witnessed the game at City of Palms Park. The previous attendance record of 7,385 was set on March 22, 2000 for a game between Cincinnati and the Boston.

Manny Ramirez is still looking for his first hit of the spring. He went 0-for-2 Saturday with a swinging strikeout in the first inning and a fly-out to center in the third.
