Boston Red Sox/Washington Senators, April 29, 1918

Monday, April 29, 1918

Boston Red Sox v. Washington Senators
Fenway Park

Game called at 2:45 pm because of a mist over the field and a cold east wind. It started raining at 3:00 pm

Harry Frazee announces that he has been offered — and has rejected — $100,000 for Babe Ruth. “It is ridiculous to talk about it. Ruth is our big ace. He’s the most talked of, most sought for, most colorful ball player in the game.”

Frazee does not discuss any details of the offer and does not name the team who approached him.

Manager Ed Barrow said infielder Frank Truesdale had accepted Boston’s offer and the team wired him money for transportation. Truesdale played second base for Toronto in the International League in 1917.

Stuffy McInnis’s brother — Albert F. McInnis — enlists in Navy.

Washington is expecting to lose pitcher George Dumont and catcher Ed Gharrity to the draft.
